Discover Settles Auto-Dialing Case For $8.7 Million

For the companies, an unhappy scenario plays itself out. First they are cited by regulators, in this case the FCC, then they’re sued. Discover Financial Services and Discover Bank will pay $8.7 million to settle a class action that alleged mass auto-dialing of consumers without their permission. The prospective class includes more than 8 million members, some of whom tried and failed to have the settlement judged inadequate. A separate order mandates $2.1 million in attorney’s fees. The settlement bars defendants from using the auto-dialing system in the future.
