Did Jeff Sessions Violate His Promise To Recuse From Russia?

Some Democrats and legal ethics experts accuse Attorney General Jeff Sessions of violating his pledge to recuse himself from the ongoing investigation into whether anyone involved with Donald Trump’s campaign for president was colluding with the Russian government. Sessions’ involvement in writing a memo making the case for Trump to fire FBI director James Comey was inappropriate because Comey was overseeing the FBI’s investigation into Russian ties, the critics assert. The Washington Post reported that Sessions, along with Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, consulted with Trump prior to Comey’s dismissal.  DOJ disagreed with the criticism. “The recommendation to remove Director Comey was a personnel decision based on concerns about the effectiveness of his leadership,” Justice Department spokesman Ian Prior told NPR news. “The recommendation had nothing to do with the substance of any investigation.”
