An interview with the chief executive of a security company on the subject of a potentially deadly type of cyber breach. There is a systemic problem in this area, says Benjamin Caudill of Rhino Security Labs. Medical device manufacturers currently have little incentive to integrate security into the product as they develop it, so security often remains an afterthought, or add-on – “the last box to check.” This is an issue with all kinds of internet-of-things products, but with medical devices it has the potential for more than loss of personal data and possible subsequent fraud or theft. The worse case scenarios involve direct bodily harm.
