Dead War Correspondent’s Family Sues Syrian Regime

Heirs of war correspondent Marie Colvin have filed a civil law suit against Bashar al-Assad and other Syrian officials, claiming that she was deliberately targeted and killed by artillery fire in 2012, in order to end her reporting on civilian casualties in the city of Homs. Colvin worked for the Sunday Times of London. The complaint alleges that the Syrian military used electronically intercepted communications, plus information from an informant, to launch a series of “bracketing” artillery attacks that eventually struck the clandestine media center where she was based. Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik were killed when a shell landed outside the front door as they tried to flee.
