In a Q&A, Daniel Shih, the Chief Ethics Officer, Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Walmart China, talks about the challenges of day-to-day management, overseeing a client that has 80,000 “associates” with 410 facilities across a vast country. “With a business of this size,” he says, “we have neither the luxury nor the resources to achieve a perfect result in every scenario. It is critical for me to quickly zero in on the ‘business critical’ issues in a sea of competing matters and then deploy my limited resources to achieve the maximum return for the company.” He explains how he does it, and the concept is simple. But it requires a big investment of time.
