David J. Skorton Named Secretary of Smithsonian Institution

David J. Skorton, the cardiologist and Cornell University president, has been named secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. He will succeed current secretary G. Wayne Clough, who will retire at the end of this year. Skorton, a specialist in congenital heart disease, will be the first medical doctor to lead the Smithsonian. He will take over as secretary in July 2015.
