D.C. Council Approves $11.50 Minimum Wage

Minimum wage for workers in Washington D.C. will rise from $8.25 to $11.50 per hour after the city council approved the measure unanimously, over protestations from Mayor Vincent Gray. The pay hike will go into effect in 2016, and will make the U.S. capital one of the highest minimum wage areas in the nation. Gray opposed the measure, favoring a raise to $10 per hour instead, but the unanimous vote makes the bill veto-proof.
