Cubs, MLB, Seek Preemptive Strike On Pirate Merchandise

The Chicago Cubs and Major League Baseball (MLB) are seeking a court order that will allow law them to work with law enforcement to seize allegedly counterfeit or trade-mark infringing merchandise for the rest of the season and during the playoffs. The move is part of a lawsuit that targets more than three dozen alleged violators selling Cub merchandise either in the Wrigley Field vicinity or online. According to one IP attorney, getting this kind of court order is a common move for big concerts and sports events because it’s more effective than going to court after the fact. His advice to violators who are caught selling bootleg t-shirts: “Beg for forgiveness, say you’ll never do it again, pay a reasonable settlement and move on with your life.”
