Companies To Help Draft Federal Facial Recognition Tech Guidelines

Facebook, Walmart, and other companies who plan to use facial-recognition technology are helping to draft a voluntary code of conduct on how images and online profiles can be used. The Commerce Department will begin meeting with companies and privacy advocates in February, and a draft will be issued by June. Creating a voluntary code of conduct is an attempt to address some concerns related to the technology, while not inhibiting innovation in a fledgling sector of the tech industry.
