Companies Alarmed As Europe Mulls New Data Privacy Law

It’s likely to influence the direction of privacy laws and thus business models worldwide. A Berlin conference to discuss the law, which is expected to be finalized next year, drew representatives from some major U.S. companies in a variety of industries. “This proposal is going to create a whole new layer of regulation for the vast majority of businesses that have nothing to do with social media,” said one conference speaker. “They are going to see their compliance loads increase greatly with very little benefit.”
