Comcast Sues For Rights To TV Monitoring Software Developed By Employee

Comcast has filed a lawsuit against a former employee, claiming that the company has rights to TV tracking software the employee developed while working there. Defendant Robert Orlowski developed software that tracks a consumer’s TV watching habits after it is installed in a set-top box, and was in negotiations to license it to Comcast in a six-year, $12.5 million deal. But then Comcast discovered Orlowski was the developer, a fact he did not disclose even while signing Comcast up for a trial of the software while still an employee. Orlowski claims he spent a thousand non-work hours at home, and $10,000 of his own money on the project.
