Men Accused Of Sexual Assault Filing Title IX Discrimination Cases

The way colleges handle sexual assault claims – separate from state or local police – has long been criticized by women who say school investigators lack training and show bias against accusers. But a lawsuit filed under Title IX by men accused of sexual assault in college cases claims investigations are skewed to favor accusers, who are mostly women. The suit details cases from Xavier University, Vassar College, Williams College, Bucknell University and elsewhere. Colleges face a challenging legal environment in these instances: If they fail to investigate and levy appropriate penalties they can be fined by the Education Department, but students disciplined or expelled in such cases can sue the university.
