Coke Bankrolls Obesity Non-Profit

Some choice emails obtained by the Associated Press document the influence that Coca-Cola Company had over a non-profit called the Global Energy Balance Network, headed by a  a professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Some Coke executives envisioned a media go-to source that would counter the “shrill rhetoric” of “public health extremists.” Taxes on soft drinks are said to have been a particular annoyance for the company. The non-profit group, which received $1.5 million from the company, played up the idea that good exercise habits would burn off the sugar.
