About half of U.S. businesses now use the cloud. Most find it cost-effective, convenient and fast. But with cloud services come a number of employment-related obligations that employers ignore at their peril, writes attorney Ian Carleton Schaefer from Epstein Becker Green. He outlines the major issues and what employers need to do in order to remain in compliance and avoid litigation. Watch out, he writes, for potential wage-and-hour claims from the newly empowered “agile” work force, and for new HIPAA-related obligations vis-a-vis the cloud provider (a.k.a. the company’s “business associate”).
