Climate Suit Could Cost Exxon Billions

If Exxon Mobil knowingly misled investors and the public about the science of climate change, it “stands to lose billions of dollars in what I would imagine would be one of the largest class-action lawsuits in history.” Secretary of State John Kerry told Rolling Stone. Kerry said that he would be “outraged, furious,” if the claims are proven. “I would support the investigation into what happened and, based on the facts, I’d pursue the facts.” Claims that the oil giant was studying the negative impacts of climate change while publicly questioning the merits of climate science were publishing in the Los Angeles Times. Exxon has denied the claims, and has accused journalists of engaging in unethical practices and ignoring evidence from the company.
