Clerk Who Trashed Files Faces Prison Time

A Texas court clerk who threw thousands of pages of documents into courthouse trash cans after he was fired could face up to 10 years in prison. Steven Calyen threw the files into a trash can while on his way to an exit interview, and now is charged with felony tampering with a public record. The files, which included mental health and sealed records, had not yet been scanned into the court’s electronic system.
