Class Action For App’s Privacy Violations Reinstated

The illusions of phone users who think they still have some confidential information got a minor boost from a First Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on May 1. A class action against the media company Gannett was reinstated after a lower court had ruled that sharing an app user’s GPS location, the device identifier and the titles of videos viewed in return for access to Gannett’s video content was not a violation of the Video Privacy Act. If the ruling stands it may affect a number of apps and app developers.
