Christie, Union Clash Over Cybersecurity

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie issued an executive order outlining a series of changes to the government’s technology infrastructure, but the Communications Workers of America, the largest union of state workers, has challenged the order in court. The union claims it conflicts with the state constitution because would require a reorganization of the state’s IT department, and would be counterproductive with respect to cybersecurity. The Christie administration is due to file a brief responding to the union’s arguments this week, and oral arguments are scheduled for early September. It is the latest in a series of clashes between Christie, a lame duck, and legislators and government workers.
