China Is Expanding Antitrust Enforcement

Antitrust enforcement in China has focused primarily on competition issues raised by mergers, especially when foreign countries are involved. But China’s Anti-Monopoly Law also addresses other areas, including resale price maintenance, price fixing, cartels and abuse of dominance. Both from cases filed and public statements by officials, there are indications these issues will be getting more attention. Early this year, six international LCD panel manufacturers were hit with the highest penalties ever imposed for violations of the price-related provisions of China’s competition law.
