China Defends $975B Qualcomm Antimonopoly Fine

The record fine against chip maker Qualcomm is designed to “restore market competitiveness,” China’s antimonopoly regulator said this week. The regulator maintains that Qualcomm based royalties on the sale price of a smartphone, rather than the patents themselves, aincluded expired patents in licensing agreements, and demanded cross-licensing agreements.
