Charges Against Texas AG Upheld

An appeals court upheld securities fraud charges against Ken Paxton, Texas’s attorney general, who is accused of defrauding wealthy investors. If Paxton pursues a third appeal, his case would be heard by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, which earlier this year threw out abuse-of-power charges against former Texas Gov. Rick Perry. The charges against Paxton claim that in 2011, while he was still a state lawmaker, he brought investors to a tech startup in Dallas without disclosing that he was being paid by the company. Paxton maintains that he will not resign.
