Center Based At NYU Law Will Fight Environmental Rollbacks

Bloomberg Philanthropies and NYU Law School are launching a new center aimed at helping state attorneys general fight federal moves to roll back renewable energy, environmental protections and climate policies. Establishment of the State Energy and Environmental Impact Center with a grant of about $6 million is another step in the increasingly rancorous battle between state attorneys general and the Trump administration over energy and the environment. “Attorneys general don’t begin to have the resources to meet these challenges,” according to Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh. The new center will provide legal assistance, including sponsorship of 10 lawyers on two-year fellowships who will work on cases in different offices. David J. Hayes, who served as the Interior Department’s deputy secretary under Presidents Obama and Clinton will serve as the center’s executive director.
