California Most Inventive State, Patent Stats Indicate

More non-design patents are filed in California than the next four states – Texas, New York, Massachusetts and Washington – combined, according to a Juristat survey. California filed more than 329,000 non-design patents, with 254,000 disposed and over 180,000 allowed between 2000 and 2010. The states with the highest allowance rates were Vermont and Idaho. At the bottom of the list: Alaska, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, and the District of Columbia, which combined for just under 3,800 disposed utility patent applications, and fewer than 2,500 allowances.
