CA Regulator Slaps Uber With $7.3M Fine

A California administrative law judge said Uber’s refusal to provide data violates a 2013 law, and recommended the app-based ride-sharing service be fined $7.3 million and forced to suspend operations in the state. California Public Utilities Commission Chief Administrative Law judge Karen V. Clopton said Uber has not proven that they’ve complied with a state law to ensure drivers are providing rides fairly to all passengers. Clopton recommended the service be suspended in California until Uber proves it “complies fully with the outstanding requirements.” Uber said it will appeal the ruling.
