California Resets The Bar In Privacy Legal Landscape

New privacy legislation has been signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown in California, which traditionally sets the bar in this arena. Operators of commercial website or online services that collect personally identifiable information about California residents will need to add new disclosures to their privacy policy. The new legislation also expands the definition of “personal information” that may trigger notification requirements after a security breach.
