Business and Temp Agency Both Get OSHA Fines

Less than a year ago an OSHA official, speaking publicly, decried dangerous working conditions encountered by temporary workers, “who often perform the most dangerous jobs, have limited English proficiency and are not receiving the training and protective measures required.” That same day OSHA issued a memorandum to regional administrators, advising them to instruct Compliance Safety and Health Officers (CSHOs) to intensify their oversight and enforcement efforts with regard to temporary workers. With that history as background, this post describes a recent case where an employer was fined nearly $200,000 for numerous safety and health violations, and the staffing agency was cited as well: It was assessed $6,000 in penalties for failing to provide proper training.
