Brexit Will Cause “Real Hardship” In EU Law

A European Union justice sub-committee has warned that many legal cases are likely to become more difficult after Brexit unless a mutual recognition of judgments is renegotiated. “[T]here will be real hardship” for European families and firms, who will be subject to 27 separate, national sets of regulations across EU states, the committee said in a report, “Brexit: Justice for families, individuals and businesses?” A new agreement with the EU or transitional arrangements must be made, the committee said, because the regime of reciprocal legal rules that operates within the EU cannot simply be reproduced through UK legislation.
