Bond Raters Are Still Being Shopped

There are more ratings options now than there were during the last financial crisis and, according to critics of the system, more competition among the raters to make the client look good. Last week the SEC met to discuss a proposal from Senator Al Franken that would create a board to select the firms who would grade asset-backed bonds, thereby cutting the bond issuers out of the selection process.
