Billionaire Suing Google, Claiming He’s Defamed By Autocomplete Results

A billionaire tycoon has been given the green light to sue Google for the autocomplete results that appear when searching his name, some of which imply he may be associated with organized crime. Hong Kong’s Albert Yeung says that Google search results have “gravely injured” his reputation, and he wants Google to remove autocomplete suggestions that imply he is associated with “triad,” a term for organized crime gangs in China. Google argued Yeung would be better off locating the source of the rumors and asking that defamatory information be removed, but Judge Marlene Ng disagreed, saying Google had the ability to censor material.
