‘Big Screw-Up’ Leaves Woman Stranded In Jail For Months Without Counsel, Trial

The U.S. justice system failed one woman, who was recently released after serving 154 days in prison when she was only supposed to be held for 48 hours. In August, the Indiana woman was ordered to spend two days in jail for violating her drug program, but it took five months and a prosecutor happening upon old files to discover that she had been lost in the system, and was still behind bars without any legal representation and without trial. The victim, Destiny Hoffman, is expected to file a civil rights lawsuit.
