How Big Can “Small” Government Contractors Get?

The success of MicroTech, a firm that has received more than $1 billion in government contracts, a large portion of that under programs reserved for small and/or minority-owned businesses or businesses owned by service-disabled veterans, is the subject of an in-depth Washington Post investigation into just how large a company can be while still benefiting from federal small business set-asides. The founder and principal of MicroTech, a 24-year army veteran, was a contract specialist who in 1995 was named “U.S. Army Contracting Officer of the Year.”
