Beyoncé Sued For Voice Sample

The family of the late Anthony Barré, also known as comedian and rapper Messy Mya, is suing pop megastar Beyoncé, saying she did not have permission to sample his voice in her album, “Lemonade.” Barré’s voice can be heard in the opening sample of “Formation,” saying, “What happened at the New Wildins?” and “Bitch, I’m back. By popular demand.” The samples come from viral YouTube videos Barré posted, titled, “Booking the Hoes From New Wildin,” and “A 27-Piece Huh?” which has been viewed more than two million times. Barré’s sister has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $20 million in back royalties and other damages.
