Barely Half of Americans Trust the Judiciary

Trust in the judicial branch of government has fallen by eight percent in the past year, but at 53 percent it still ranks highest of the three branches. Six years ago trust of the judiciary stood at 73 percent. The decline in trust is most pronounced among Republicans, likely due to the Supreme Court’s controversial decisions this year to legalize same-sex marriage and uphold a key provision of the Affordable Care Act. Thirty seven percent of Americans think the Supreme Court is too liberal, twenty percent find it too conservative.
