Bad Luck Is a Good Teacher, Says Chief Justice

Justice Roberts gave the ninth-grade commencement address at an elite boarding school for boys last month. His son John Jr was one of the graduates. “I wish you bad luck from time to time so that you will be conscious of the role of chance in life,” Roberts told the boys, and added that he hoped they would be treated unfairly from time to time too, so they could learn the value of justice. He also noted that they’d been going to an all-boys school for the past few years, but most of them would be attending schools where there were girls in the future. “I have no advice to offer on that,” he said, and concluded his address by quoting Bob Dylan.
