Avon Runs Afoul Of FCPA

Avon Products will pay $135 million to settle charges that it bribed Chinese government officials, according to a filing with Securities and Exchange Commission. The company’s Chinese subsidiary will plead guilty to violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The settlement still needs final approval from regulators and the company’s board of directors. Avon has also agreed to install a government-approved compliance monitor for 18 months, and continue reporting to the government for an additional 18 months.
