Appeals Court Reverses Cisco’s $64M Patent Case

Cisco is off the hook for nearly $64 million in damages after an appeals court this week found the company did not infringe on a patent holding company’s wi-fi technology. The eight-year old lawsuit has been argued before the Supreme Court, but this ruling comes from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which found Cisco did not infringe nor induce others to infringe a Commil USA LLC patent on a method for spreading wireless signals over a large area where multiple access points are needed. “The patent never had anything to do with our products and the millions of dollars spent defending this un-meritorius suit are a travesty,” said Cisco General Counsel Mark Chandler.
