American Idol Winner Sued By TV Production Company

After winning “American Idol,” Phillip Phillips signed an exclusive management deal with one of the show’s production companies, the now-bankrupt 19 Entertainment Inc. Phillips filed a complaint alleging violation of California labor laws, which he said invalidated his contract with the producer. 19 Entertainment claims its bankruptcy filing halted that complaint. It has asked a bankruptcy judge to award it between $850,000 and $1 million related to Phillips’s alleged breach of the management contract, plus other awards totaling more than $6 million.
