American Airlines Group Chairman Tom Horton Stepping Down

American Airlines Group chairman Tom Horton will leave his position before the company’s annual meeting June 4. With Horton’s departure, American Airlines Group chief executive officer Doug Parker will take over as chairman. Horton began working at American Airlines and parent AMR in 1985. He left for several years to join AT&T, then returned to American in 2006 after SBC Communications acquired AT&T. Horton, who moved up from chief financial officer to president of American in 2010, took over as been chairman and CEO of American and AMR as well on Nov. 28, 2011, as predecessor Gerard Arpey resigned and the AMR board voted to take the company into bankruptcy the next day.
