American Airlines and US Airways Ask For November Trial

American Airlines and US Airways have asked for a November 12 federal court date and a 10-day trial in the U.S. Justice Department’s challenge to the companies’ proposed merger. That would give the government 90 days of trial preparation, while the government has asked for twice that. The Justice Department seeks to block the merger, which would create the world’s biggest carrier, saying the drop-off in competition would lead to a hike in ticket prices.
