Alito Represents SCOTUS’ Far-Right

After 10 years on the bench, Justice Samuel Alito has emerged as the Supreme Court’s most ideological conservative. Unlike Chief Justice John Roberts, who on at least 10 significant occasions has voted separately from his conservative colleagues, Alito has unerringly held to his far-right principles. That could be because Roberts is more dedicated to the institutional legitimacy of the Court, Tom Donnelly and Brianne Gorod write in The Atlantic. “[S]ince joining the Court, [Roberts has] repeatedly expressed the concern that the Court not be seen as an extension of the political process—and there are areas in which that concern trumps his ideology,” they write. “In contrast, Alito’s record is almost always consistent with his conservative ideology.”
