Cloud computing is growing fast and will become the dominant business model over traditional on-premises technology options within the next two to three years. The shift to hybrid works has hastened the process. The advantages include the flexibility to scale services based on demand without buying or maintaining hardware, and the ability to take advantage of new applications without paying teams of engineers to deploy and manage them. The move to the cloud also obviates some basic security worries, but there is a fly in the ointment. The hybrid cloud has introduced new security issues — securing staff access to services, ensuring that data is encrypted and not left exposed to other cloud users and making sure that data stays safe when moving between applications and cloud services. The risks increase as the use of cloud computing expands to new areas.
