Many traditionalist institutional investors are now either more or less “activist” investors or will support activist factions. Companies need to recognize this is the new normal, that activists with small holdings may have wide support, and adjust their strategies accordingly. “Just say no” is seldom an option and ongoing communication with shareholders a must.
