A Bridge Too Far For EBay And PayPal?

The New York Times reports that the general counsels of both EBay and PayPal have received letters from the New York state attorney general’s office, raising questions about their new user agreements. Both agreements say the company may contact the user, using any phone number the user gave them or that they have “otherwise obtained,” for purposes of promotions, offers, polling or debt collection. Among the questions raises by the AG is how users can consent to be called if they have not given out their phone number,  and how they can opt out.
