How to Use Generative AI in Your Routine Business Operations

Companies are more and more considering the integration of generative AI (GAI) into their routine operations, according to an article in the National Law Review. As a subset of AI, these large language models focus on creating new content and generating a human-like response.

If your company wants to incorporate GAI into its business functions, it first needs to establish corporate controls, policies, and oversight mechanisms. There are several steps that need to be considered to ensure the safe and efficient use of the technology.

  1. Establish written governance stipulating who is permitted to use the GAI applications, along with the purpose and permissions or authorizations.
  2. Create and provide employees with written policies and best practices. The policies should include guidelines about using the applications and address key areas of concern — bias, data privacy, security, and ethics — as well as compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  3. Include internal processes to monitor and evaluate the GAI application, identifying areas of concern and opportunities for improvement and making sure that the use of GAI aligns with the company’s overall goals and values.
  4. Identify a specific employee to serve as an internal resource for the rest of the organization, monitor the ongoing development of GAI applications, and advocate for responsible implementation of the technology.
