Contract Transformation? Put Legal Ops in the Driver’s Seat
September 25, 2023

As digital transformation in legal departments has become the norm, more attention is being paid to the need for contract automation. This focus can be a double-edged sword for Legal Ops. Although contract technology should make contract processes faster and easier, there are two challenges, according to CLOC.
First, other departments can take the lead in choosing a contract transformation solution that works best for them, but this requires Legal Ops to deal with disparate systems.
Second, Legal Ops can take the lead, focusing on what the technology can do for legal but with little to no adoption by other departments.
Both of these challenges require input and cooperation from across the enterprise. Three considerations emerge for Legal Ops to drive successful contract transformation efforts:
- It is critical to understand what matters to other departments.
- If the proposed solutions can be integrated with the tools already in use, it will be much easier for departments to adopt them,
- Nothing builds momentum in digital transformation more than analyzing data and aligning on key performance indicators (KPIs).
A digital transformation effort is directed toward gaining value and efficiencies. With the right cross-functional approach, Legal Ops can get in the driver’s seat and navigate a successful solution.
