Content Sharing and Copyright

Information sharing with colleagues is crucial for supporting collaboration and driving innovation in research-driven organizations. Executives, especially share lots of information, significantly more than colleagues in middle management and individual contributor roles. According to a 2023 study they report the highest level of copyright awareness, yet are most likely to share information in ways contrary to their own companies’ policies, especially in competitive, mission-critical or time-critical situations. Remote work has boosted the statistics. As leaders, it is critical that executives understand their organization’s copyright policies and consistently adhere to them. They should take steps to support employee education and communication about copyright and deploy appropriate compliance solutions to support a streamlined content workflow. Those solutions should make it easier for executives and all employees within the organization to secure needed permissions through proper licensing and copyright-compliant content management software.
