Apple Shut Down Pay Equity Survey, Shareholders Allege

Apple is under investigation by the U.S. Labor Department for alleged harassment and retaliation against an employee who raised concerns about workplace safety, and now a shareholder proposal is calling for the company to agree to a civil rights audit. The shareholders who filed the proposal claim Apple shut down employee-run surveys on pay equity. It also mentions the hiring of a manager who had “a history of misogynistic and racist commentary.” That manager was fired after employee protests. The company pledged $100 million for a racial justice initiative after the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, but according to the proposal it has had little success in diversifying its own workforce.
