GOP, Obama Administration Locked In 'Unprecedented' Lawsuit

The GOP and the Obama administration filed new briefs in a lawsuit in which Republicans claim the executive branch has overreached with the Affordable Care Act. Meanwhile, a U.S. district court judge has yet to determine whether House Republicans even have standing in the case, which the Justice Department called “unprecedented.” GOP leaders claim the White House is spending money through Obamacare for which Congress never appropriated funds. The Obama administration says the funds were mandatory and permanent when the ACA became law. The government’s filing claims the House Republicans are “asking this Court to violate the separation of powers by wading into a dispute between the political Branches … and to do for the House what the House will not use its legislative authority to do for itself.”
