Singapore is Hub For Arbitration In Asia

Singapore has emerged as a major regional seat of arbitration for hearing disputes in and around Asia. In 2019 the American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution® expanded its office there, and works with the Singaporean government to strengthen ADR processes and promote the country as a regional arbitration seat. Singapore has a reputation for transparent and corruption-free courts. It is supportive of the use of arbitration. Its legal system welcomes foreign lawyers to practice arbitration and offers special work passes and tax exemptions for arbitrators and mediators. Awards issued in Singapore are enforceable through the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. The ICDR maintains offices at Singapore’s Maxwell Chambers, a dispute resolution center in the city’s business district where the highest concentration of case management offices in the world are located. The organization’s 2018’s caseload included 199 parties from Asia including China, India, and Japan.
