Surveys taken after the massive Panama Papers hack suggested that law firm cybersecurity industry-wide was lagging behind health care and financial services companies. Now it appears that another niche of the legal industry may be even less prepared for a cyber attack than the law firms. It’s not uncommon, says the author of this Today’s General Counsel article, for alternative dispute resolution providers “to use a mix of consumer and enterprise software, inviting additional risks.” The conclusion is that parties preparing to retain ADR professionals are advised to determine whether the provider in question is taking security seriously by way of, among other measures, secure document exchange, extensive use of encryption, web-browsing control and advanced intrusion detection.
